24v pcm

I'm swapping a 01 24v with transmission into a 92 f350..

My Cummins is a nv5600 truck and I was under the impression that a vss signal wasn't needed to run the engine. My goal is to run the dodge pcm and hopefully have the ability to add a Smarty.

Dcs spplied some info with my purchase on pcm wiring and stated that I may need a vss signal to run the engine and that a Dakota digital converter might be needed...

So...

Do I need a vss signal to run a 6 speed standard 24v engine and dodge pcm?

Will I be able to add a Smarty programer?

I have a vss signal off of the rear differential on my truck for the rear ABS... Will that signal work?

Any information is helpful...

Thanks :)
